The whitewashed houses of Ostuni's historic center are distinctive for its oriental character and labyrinthine alleyways. Ampi lavori di ristrutturazione e di rinnovo sono stati necessari per trasformare un vecchio deposito appartenente ad una masseria fronte mare in un domicilio pieno di charme e fascino. Nella primissima fase di ristrutturazione si pensava di denominare l’appartamento per ferie Mare di stelle, al pensiero dell’immediata vicinanza allo scoglio e le stelle che scintillano sul mare. Ma in sintonia con lo stile predominante dell’appartamento vicinissimo alla spiaggia è stato scelto il nome Porta D’Oriente Suite.

Oriental – Mediterranean – rustic – individual Although the apartment is designed in oriental style, Porta D’Oriente Suite (corresponding to the geographical position of Puglia) undoubtedly represents a successful and interesting meeting of cultures.

The individually crafted gate is flanked by two massive columns culminating in two white stone domes reminiscent of distant mosques. A prickly pear cactus has found its perfect spot next to it. The apartment's exterior terrace is bordered by a dry stone wall in warm shades of sand and terracotta, characteristic of both Puglia and Arab countries and exuding a warm welcome. The house's façade, with a handcrafted sea-green arched door in the center inviting guests to enter, is striking.
The oval-shaped windows have been framed with a sense of originality with irregular stones.

A long white stone bench decorated with oriental cushions invites you to listen to the murmur of the sea, perhaps with a nice glass of Apulian wine. From this elevated position, you can also enjoy a lateral sea view—the front of the building offers direct access to the sea (sandy bay). On the lawned terrace, a group of wooden chairs awaits, perfect for romantic candlelit dinners. The warm lighting embedded in the drystone wall and the bench, combined with a series of storm lamps, makes the space welcoming and individual, even when open-air.

The recently renovated Porta D'Oriente Suite apartment is suitable for two people (or even a small child). Since the apartment also has a fan, it can also be used in the autumn and winter months.
The owners have decorated the house with great care and passion. They used high-quality materials such as travertine and other natural stones, such as Jerusalem stone, characterized by a distinctive sand-yellow hue.

Numerous stylish ideas and concepts, such as the Arabesque-inspired double bed, reveal the owners' passion for interior design. A Persian majolica decoration in place of a headboard draws attention. Perforated wall and ceiling lights create fascinating lighting effects, a classic of Moroccan craftsmanship. The built-in kitchen counter is covered with a splendid slab of yellow travertine. The saffron-colored wall also blends harmoniously into the space. Should you decide to dine inside, there are also two colonial-style raised stools. The kitchen area (inside the room) is well-equipped with a ceramic stovetop, oven, refrigerator with freezer, glassware, dishes, and plenty of kitchen utensils.

The family that owns the property acquired the individual oriental decorations during their travels. The intricately designed Maghrebian mirror, a painting, and several accessories were found in London, for example, while the two antique prints were found at an antiques market in Tuscany. Even the outdoor cushions were specially brought to Ostuni. Other items were simply added. In place of a traditional wardrobe, there's an ivory-colored canopy topped with an orange curtain. (The alcove features custom-made shelves for hanging clothes.) To maintain the rustic style of the room, an uneven plaster finish was chosen.

A white sliding door provides a seamless transition to the bathroom. Here, too, the usual tiles were deliberately avoided, preferring, for example, travertine mosaic tiles in the shower (with a glass door). A travertine countertop sink was chosen for the built-in counter. Luxurious fixtures, a large mirror, and a natural stone floor lend the bathroom (also equipped with a window, heated towel rail, and hairdryer) a refined touch. Porta D’Oriente is captivating for its personal atmosphere. A built-in safe, washing machine, and iron are available for guest use. Parking is available in the courtyard. The Porta D’Oriente apartment, on the ground floor, is slightly lower than the neighboring apartment with a patio.

Villanova, the ancient fishing port, and the neighboring village of Camerini, where the apartment is located on a strip of land jutting out into the sea, have retained their original character. Here, you can still watch fishermen taking their boats out to sea and pounding their octopus on the rocks after catching it, so they can be perfectly prepared in the kitchen. Puglia, the Mecca of Mediterranean cuisine!
