Coast
From the hills to the sea, along the small port you can see olive groves as far as the eye can see. Olives are the fruits of Ostuni agriculture, which in the light shine with a silver-green, an enormous chromatic contrast with the intense blue of the sky, which finally forms a whole with the sea on the horizon.
The coast of Marina di Ostuni extends for about 20 km. Bays and cliffs alternate and are framed by the greenery of the Mediterranean maquis. The visitor can choose between a beach of fine white sand or rocks. In any case, you will admire the different backdrops of this area.
Approaching Ostuni from the north, the first thing you see are the dunes, some of which are covered with magnificent shrubs of fragrant Mediterranean herbs. Here are the beaches of Lido Bosco Verde, Lido Morelli and Pilone. The latter is a holiday resort completely surrounded by greenery with a long sandy beach. Former watchtower of the XVI. Century, the Tower of San Leonardo, rises directly on the seashore.
The closest resort to the south is Rosa Marina, which is one of the most exclusive on the coast: a cluster of whitewashed summer villas spread impressively over a large area. Then follow Monticelli, a settlement with a peaceful atmosphere, which even has traces of the Bronze Age, and Diano Marina, a small village still under development. In Villanova, once Petrolla and geographically the center of the coast, stands the picturesque ancient fishing port of historical importance. The ancient fortress at the port from the 16th century. Century was run by fishermen and hopeful swimmers from foreign waters.
The long sandy beaches of the first stretch of coast of Ostuni are followed by the coves of Gorgognolo and in particular of Costa Merlata, the so-called laced coast. Then come Santa Lucia and Torre Pozzella, where many small coves and a sixteenth-century watchtower follow one another. century. The last incredibly beautiful corner of the coast is Lamaforca with a number of beaches. The internationally renowned holiday club Valtur is also located here.
