Torre Vado – the ancient tower that gives its name to the marina, stands out over the picturesque fishing port. It is one of the numerous watchtowers that Charles V had built in the 16th century to protect the Salento area from unwanted invaders. The round watchtower once had a messenger who could warn the inland towns on horseback in case of danger.
Like Torre Vado, some towns are named after their coastal watchtowers, such as Torre San Giovanni, Torre Pali, Torre Lapillo, Torre Squillace and Torre Mozza, which served to protect residents from invaders.
Holiday in Torre Vado
Torre Vado itself is a hamlet of 111 souls that belongs to the municipality of Morciano di Leuca. The town around the marina has adapted to tourism in recent decades. You will find restaurants and pizzerias, pubs, ice cream parlors and newsstands. Tuesday is always market day.
It is also possible to take exciting boat trips from the small port of Torre Vado, including to the nearby Leuca caves. In summer, special musical evenings also take place at the marina.
Torre Vado is popular with morning joggers along the seafront. There is also a well-known diving school (Diving Center) with an adjoining shop on site. Do you prefer to go horseback riding or trekking and get to know the scenic and archaeological beauties of the area? It is possible here too. If you want to discover the enchanting hinterland, you can explore it, for example, with beautiful bike tours. On one side you will find lush vegetation, on the other a barren karst landscape. Whether it's farms or pajars, churches, crypts or fig catus, there is a lot to see during your trip to Puglia.
If you want to enjoy peace and tranquility during your summer holidays, accommodation in the nearby green hills surrounded by olive trees, which exude a more rural charm, is also ideal. We offer some interesting suggestions in our portfolio.
If you are traveling in Salento you cannot miss a visit to Gallipoli, Santa Maria di Leuca, Castro, Otranto and Lecce. If you have enough time, be sure to visit the only Ostuni in the province of Brindisi (Alto Salento).
